Major River Cleanup Initiative for a Pollution-Free Mumbai
On May 24, 2025, Nature Forever Society, in collaboration with eClerx Services Ltd, launched a significant river cleanup campaign targeting the Kakadpatti River in Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Mumbai. The initiative focused on removing all forms of garbage—including plastics, glass, and other non-biodegradable materials—from the riverbed, aiming to detoxify the river and its surrounding ecosystem.
Objectives: Preventing Pollution and Flooding
The primary goal of this campaign is to create a pollution-free environment by eliminating harmful waste from the river. By cleaning the Kakadpatti River, the initiative helps prevent water choking during the monsoon season, thereby reducing the risk of flooding in the area and contributing to a more resilient Mumbai.

Volunteer Participation and Impact
The River Cleanup Activity saw the enthusiastic participation of 27 volunteers from eClerx Services Ltd. Together, they collected an impressive 28 large bags of small plastics and non-biodegradable waste from the riverbed. This successful event marks a crucial step towards regular river cleanups in partnership with corporates, especially before the onset of the monsoon, to ensure ongoing river detoxification across the region.
Environmental Benefits of River Cleanup
The Kakadpatti River Cleanup Campaign plays a vital role in removing plastics, glass, and other pollutants that accumulate due to human activities. By conducting pre-monsoon cleanups, the initiative helps avert waterlogging and subsequent flooding, making Mumbai more resilient to heavy rainfall and environmental challenges.
Appreciation and Future Campaigns
Nature Forever Society extends heartfelt gratitude to all eClerx Services Ltd volunteers for their dedication and commitment to environmental protection. Their enthusiasm highlights the power of collective action in conservation efforts.
Moving forward, the campaign aims to engage more corporates and volunteers in river cleanup and detoxification efforts. By working together, we can restore the natural beauty and ecological balance of Mumbai’s rivers, ensuring a cleaner, greener future for all.
